My computer crashed and I had to do a format and reinstall on Win7-64. I had a complete backup on an external drive. I've reinstalled Live Mail, but wonder where my contacts and mail folders are located in the backup. If I remember correctly, they're someplace in Users/App Data - but don't know where. Also, when I find them, can I simply move them to the same place on the reformatted drive and have them appear correctly? Thanks.

They are here (see pic.)

You should import them not copy.

Check your new install here for message location:
Tools/Options/Advanced/Maintainance/Store Folder: "C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Mail"
Use the Import wizard set to "Windows Live Mail" format.

You don't need to restore contacts IF you have been signing in since they are saved on Microsoft servers and will simply repopulate. If not signing in then check this out:
Windows Live Mail – Contacts Database « The Field Guide . Since there is no "import" for the Windows Live Mail Contacts format, all you can do is drag and drop the contents of the old "Contacts" folder into the new "Contacts" folder. I have done that in the previous (2009) version of WLM but have not yet tried it in the 2011 version, but it may be your only choice. Note that the files you want are hidden as "protected operating system files" but you can still drag and drop the "invisible" contents. Windows will ask you to confirm that you really want to do this multiple times so just comfirm every dialog until it's done.
