Hi I'm new here, and I thought this was the best windows forum I found on the internet. Anyway. Yesterday I installed Windows 7 RC (currently build 7100) And the problems immediately start showing. If I decide to listen to some music the computer will crash after only a few minutes. It doesn't matter which program I use. Either I am using iTunes or Spotify it crashes. And I have no Idea what's the problem what so ever.

My computer has two Ati Radeon 4870HD graphiccards, and I have installed the latest drivers. I've seen some of you mention the HDMI Audio package to be the problem, but I don't know. When my computer crashes, it freezes, and the screen either go black or the picture on the screen is blured out in straight lines. Almost like a motionblur. I should mention I use two screens aswell. When i restart the computer a bios thing shows up on my screen asking if I would like to fix something in the bios settings or just start. And then the classic "run windows normally, run windows in safe mode..." screen comes up.

I seriously have no clue what could be the problem. Could anybody help me.

Future thanks, mov.

Hi, I am running 64-bit too, and with exactly the same cards, Asus ATI hd4870! I reinstalled the drivers now, and disconnected the second screen. Haven't tried listening to music yet, but I will do it now and you will hear from me in about 5-10 minutes I guess. Haven't tried the media player no, but if that works and the others don't then I don't know whats wrong. I should also mention that when I for instance try to watch the IGN videos from E3 (haven't tried any other movies yet) the computer also crashes.. But I will try now.

Another problem, my counter-strike:source will not update.. It downloaded, but now it says "download starting..." and it never starts, I've tried everyting; given steam admin rights, rebooted steam, and paused the download. Still nothing happens..

Thanks for a quick answer!

next time it crashes keep the memory dump. Some of the wizard here can decypher it and point you in the right direction.

Good luck

What exactly is the memory dump? Anyway, I unplugged the second screen, and reinstalled the ATI driver and suddenly the system doesn't crash. Don't know why it would crash with two monitors..

Thanks!

BSOD & mem dmp

When you get a blue screen of death it shows you some information on the screen and stores whatever is in memory to a memory dump. That way you know exactly what was happening/causing the problem. the dump is stored in C:\windows\minidump in my case. Its stored in a file with the date (04/06/2009.dmp) and can be opened with notepad. Its not really readible in notepad though and someone with alot of experience can help you diagnose it.

Does that help?

Ken
