I don't think my residence got hit by lightning directly, but I did experience some brownout during the storm as the grid protection kicked in several times, so somewhere along the grid must have experienced several lightning strikes.
The computer was off and had been off for probably half a week straight before the storm hit, so I'm not 100% sure the storm is causing these issues but it seems likely.
Currently, the computer boots fine, runs bios fine, gets me to the login page fine, but once I enter my password and enter windows proper, all I get is a black screen, with working mouse, a cutoff of a window for an ASUS program, a shortcut for manually setting fan speeds and that's about it. Rest is black, clicking randomly doesn't seem to open any programs that might be there but not being displayed and I tried another monitor with the same result. I can open Windows taskmanager, but going through the troubleshooting suggestions online doesn't seem to solve the problem.
I tried to nuke the HD and basically start from scratch, but the windows 10 program says that an error occurred and that the reset failed.
I'm assuming something got fried (the computer was plugged into a powerstrip that has built in surge protection) or broken from power sag, so I'm trying to determine the best course of action from here.
