Hey, my computer is an Acer Aspire 7535G and recently i was installing windows 7, i got send 2 disks, one was an Acer upgrade kit which had applications, drivers for windows 7 on it. The other disk was the windows 7 disk thing that upgraded it, i did that disk and everything seemed fine, i was up to the point when i was using windows 7 and was installing the applications and drivers off the acer disk.

But when installing the drivers etc, my PC crashed and went to a black screen, then to my desktop image with no icons or bar at the bottom I could hear a few bleeps. I waited a bit and then turned off my computer, now when i turn it on it has the windows 7 startup looks, but after the logo bit it just stays on a black screen.

I dont know much about computers and dont know what to do, I have tried the following:
Putting in the windows 7 disk and booting from that, i was sent to the setup screen but there was a repair button. I tried a system restore, checking to see if there were problems and some other stuff but that didnt work.

I think that cause i turned my PC off during the drivers and applications install thats why its not working, but i dont know how to install them now since it wont turn on. Can anyone help?

As i say, im not good with computers so please bear with me if this was a bit confusing.
Thanks

Can you start over and avoid the "repair" choice or is that the only choice?

Can you restore to your previous operating system, not Windows 7?

If you get it back to basic working order, I would be reluctant to use that second disk with the drivers unless I had no choice and the drivers supplied by Windows did not work. It sounds like things were cool until you started using that disc.

All fans PWM; speeds at idle: CPU circa 500 rpm; intake circa 600 rpm; exhaust circa 600 rpm; CPU temps 27 idle and 47 C load in a warm room (27 C/81 F) when running Intel Extreme Tuning Utility stress test.
Is the WIndows 7 Upgrade disk they sent a standard Upgrade disk? What does it say on it? Does it go through a series of Windows install screens starting up to new Win7 desktop, with no Acer branding during install?

If so, I think you got a clean copy of Win7 upgrade there which is all u need to install Win7 on your machine. The Win7 installer will find all of your drivers, and if any are missing Windows updates will provide them later. Otherwise, ask us for help here.

Is there a way to install only selected apps from the second disk? If not, I would not run it as it surely includes bloatware in addition to the few apps you might want (Works) that you can't find elsewhere (Adobe reader/flashplayer, Java runtime).

I cant start over no, when i carry on with the upgrade it tells me to restart my computer to continue the process, cause i already did that bit.
I dont know how i would restore the previous operating system, i tried a system restore but there are only 2 points i can choose from, both during the upgrade process, and i tried one but it was exactly the same.

the microsoft disk i got was just for windows 7 yea, no acer stuff on it. It did go through a series of screens when it copied my files and some other stuff, when i was using the acer disk i was on windows 7 cause it looked like it and i could use it, but it crashed.

On the second disk there is a selection, and i think your right, there is only 6 things and i can remember one is the acer arcade thing. But i just need a way to turn on my computer so i could install these drivers myself. Or is there a way to run that acer disk to let it finish without going to the desktop?

Welcome to Seven Forums.

First, I would try the other 'restore point', you should have more than two restore points. Win7 should be making a restore point for each driver and application loaded.
If you find them just keep going back until the system starts.

If system restore doesn't work, then when you start your computer and see the Acer logo, hit F10 repeatedly until it goes to the recovery partition main page, you can re-install the original OS from there.
Check this site for info:
ACER PC Restore to factory settings
Scroll down near the bottom and look for 'Other means of System Restore' this explains how to get to the eRecovery partition when your computer won't boot to an OS.

Once you get a working OS you can re-install the Win7 upgrade.

Or, you can try this tutorial Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version .
Since you have a previous Windows OS, maybe Vista, you can install Win7 as described in the tutorial.

When you get Win7 running again, just use it for a while before adding any drivers or using that Acer disk again. Sounds like one of those drivers crashed you system.
When you get Win7 running, make a backup image and store in a safe place like external HD. If you have a crash it will take 15 minutes to get it back. Try Macrium Reflect, it's a free backup image and restore program, works with Win7 and is recommended by many here at Seven Forums.

You can try the F10 recovery partition and re-install Vista.
This is the same as using a re-installation DVD. The installation files are in the Recovery partition on your hard drive and are accessed by the F10 key during boot.

Then run the Win7 install.

As long as you have the Acer Vista recovery partition, or proof from Acer that it came with Vista, to show MS if they ever inquired. Then you can just do a Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version.

If there are any problems with activation you can call MS and explain the circumstances, they should allow activation.

OK, when i press F10 repeatedly, it goes to a screen that says edit boot options for windows 7. I will type what it exactly says:

Edit Windows boot options for: Windows 7

Path: \Windows\system32\winload.exe

Partition: 2
Hard Disk: 23ac4ae1

[ \NOEXECUTE=OPTINN]

That is exactly how it appears, i can type on the [ \NOEXECUTE=OPTINN] bit and if i press enter it just boots and fails again. There is nothing like the factory default thing says there will be.

You can go ahead and reinstall Win7 without Vista on there now. The license sticker you have on the machine is your proof that you had a prior qualifying OS, and should you ever need to reinstall Vista you can borrow a disk or order recovery disks from Acer.

Boot from the installer and choose Custom>Advanced tools to delete or create partitions as you wish, then format for cleanest install. If the installer doesn't find traces of Vista and rejects your Upgrade key, you can use the workarounds in this tutorial since you qualify for Upgrade: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31402-clean-install-upgrade-windows-7-version.html?filter[2]=General%20Tips

Remember that the Win7 installer is amazing with drivers and the few it doesn't install will likely come in on the first Windows Updates optional choices.

When you have it up and running to your satisfaction, use the Win7 Backup center to Create an Image to store in a primary formatted Recovery Partition and to external backup in case of HDD failure. This will make reinstalls unnecessary since you can boot into your Installer>Repair console and recover using the image in 15 minutes.

You may be a candidate for bcdedit or EasyBCD.

If you can't start fresh, can you at least get to a command prompt?

Umm i dont have a clue how to do any of the stuff with partitions, and i dont feel confident enough to meddle with them cause i know if i do something wrong then it will all break for good.

That tutorial isnt very useful to me, i dont understand it, is there one that puts it in the plainest simplest terms that i can understand, a literally step by step guide through the process.

I dont know what that BCD thing is, and i can get a command prompt if i boot from the windows 7 installation disk. Its under some repair settings.

OK forget what i said, i went onto the advanced custom install and just pressed next and it started the install, i though i would have to do some advanced stuff but i guess not, and i still get to keep my old files in the Windows.old file which is a bonus.

I am doing the install now and when its all over i will let you guys know how it went, i will make sure not to put in that acer stuff, its just their rubbish that comes with the computer and i dont care for that anyway.

Thanks for all your help and i hope my problem is solved now.

Thanks everyone for your help, windows 7 is up and running now. I didnt put in the acer disk and i wont. I will have to install all my old stuff though, but i dont mind if it means having a computer.

Is there anyway to make all the windows.old files to go in the right places? Cause for things like settings and favourites and other things i cant simply drag the files back on to the desktop.

I would of really liked to have everything the way it was before. I dont know if thats possible no that i have done the update process. But it doesnt matter if there isnt a way.

Once again thanks for all your help, i just had to do a custom advanced install and it all worked out :P It better be worth all this trouble i went through :P

Congrats on the installation.

Just look through the windows.old folder and take out anything you can use.

You will have to set everything up again. Load all the programs and change the settings.

OK thanks mate, I do have some other problems though which if you know anything about i could use some help?

Basically, since i havnt installed the acer disk, all the acer applications arnt on the PC, like the launch manager (my special programmable button), and mouse scroll wheel isnt working, I also have some buttons to turn on/off internet and bluetooth and disable the mouse button and my volume control (Used by pressing the blue Fn key and then up or down arrow keys), all of which do work, but just dont show up on the screen, so i dont know what my volume is at or if my internet is on or off etc.

Thanks if you know what to do.
