Hi Guys,

I'm pretty computer literate but I'm having a big problem with my Dell Vostro 1720 running Windows 7.

For no particularly obvious reason the computer's responsiveness seems to have slowed to a crawl. Often the system seems to draw to a halt entirely. I have carried out a system restore (after several attempts!) that took it back to 23rd July but that didn't seem to help.

The problem seemed to initally focus around Outlook so I don't know if that was perhaps the initial cause. A virus scan with AVG revealed nothing unusual.

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, thanks for the response. I'll get that filled in now. I have a Dell Vostro 1720 and having run diagnostics I have been given a 2000-0146 error, which I believe means that my hard drive is buggered.

I have spoken to Dell and they have told me that they either need to replace the hard drive or reinstall windows. Obviously I would lose my data in doing this. So my new question is, how can I grab the data from my PC so I can then wipe the hard drive? All efforts so far to do so have been relatively fruitless. I have been able to back up smaller files but am unable to transfer my 3.5gb (!) Outlook PST file. I have tried both backing up to an external hard drive and backing up across a wired network.
