So, I'm working on this .bat script.

I'm using NOTEPAD to edit from command prompt.

I ALT-F, ALT-S to save and ALT-F and ALT-X to exit. Then run my script.

I ALT-F after almost every line I change (very anal). Make a few changes, exit NOTEPAD and rerun the script.

After half a dozen changes/tests, I go back into the .bat script and it is NOW back to what it practically was when I started. TWO whole sections of code (non-contiguous) are missing from it. Part of a FOR /F loop was cut off.

I haven't had a computer error in a heck of a long time.

I'm all ears on this one. I lost half an hour of work.

Hi Jim,

Is it possible you have two copies of the .BAT file? I know it seems unlikely, but this has happened to me before....and I swore I always working on just the one copy :o

DIR on my working directory has:

sysimage.bat with an update time of current
sysimageold.bat which an update time of 6:00 PM when I started on it (copied sysimage.bat to sysimageold.bat)

It has reverted to not the START of my changes but about 30 minutes worth of work (my new parm addition IS still in the script).

Nice.

If I NOTEPAD sysimage.bat to open a window.

I can NOTEPAD sysimage.bat again with a SECOND window. Nice. I thought it would say "someone has that file in use". Maybe not from DOS??

Maybe I saved working on one copy for a while, didn't notice I had the second one open (old version in memory).

Gotta be it. Holy moly.
