Hi

My HP Touchsmart-600 freezes regularly when I surfe (chrome) or during play of different games (Civ 5/AoE3).
It startet 6 month ago after upgrade from win7 to win10 and downgrade afterwards again.
Then I reinstalled the PC with standard setup to when I bought it (system restore included with PC). That did not help and HP support has asked me to reinstall again and now I have reinstalled it 6 times, and still same problem. Before win10 there were no problem with the surfing/same games.

- No changes to hardware.
- Run PC Doctor diag = no errors
- run sfc /scannow = no errors
- run chkdsk = no errors
- Antivirus to check if that was the problem (avast or AVG) = no changes
- Run anti malware bytes = no antimalware
- Latest Win7 updates installed
- Latest graphic Card update installed
- latest bios update installed

In Windows log file there is 3 each time when I make a hard reboot after the pc freeze:
Event 1101: Event lost during transport
event 41: system restartet for kernel
event 6008: previous system closure was unexpected

How can I figure out what is doing the freezes?

You don't have two AVs installed, do you?

At the moment I do not have any AV's installed. I used to have Avast for the last 5 years but after the pc started acted strange I thought it could be the AV who caused it, so I uninstalled it and tried to install AVG, but no changes, so now I will try to figure out what is wrong before I install a new AV.

Uninstall the GPU drivers and run "DriverSweeper" to clean out any old chunk of the GPU old driver files. Now install the later drivers you have.

Welcome to the forums mschmidt72!

I agree with archer about this. Sounds like a driver problem. Just for information purposes, does this happen with any other browsers and how many tabs are open when it freezes? Just in case , have you ran a memory test?

If you did a factory refresh, there may be a trial version of an AV onboard. Often a simple uninstallation is not adequate to remove all traces, and conflicting AVs can be the death of a system. I would use the uninstall utilities Avast and AVG, and whatever might have been on there beforehand, offer, to really clean the system. Another option is to use AutoRuns, but do a Save first, if not a system image, and be careful.

my money is on memory for this one

Chrome is a bit hog on memory if you are on some sites sometimes a GB or more for one session, crazy really

Open task manager and have a look, if they are large sessions close one or two or all and restart, keep an eye on the usage

Another cause of freezes is an HDD that is going bad. That's usually the first sign, then the system will start running slow. I use GWscan to check for read element failure, if you detect that, running a full scan from that tool can repair the drive enough for you to replace it.

Old Other Info:
I finally have an Intel machine that has more than 8GB of Ram.
My ASUS M2N-SE AMD Windows 7 machine is back to Windows 7. Replaced the AMD 4400+ CPU and maxed out the RAM (4GB).
My Core Duo machine is only 2GB of Ram and it is locked to Windows XP in order to run Pro Tools 6.4, which I have been using since 2004.
I have one other Dell OptiPlex 980 tower, Identical to this one,
still problem

Hi All

Thx a lot for all the help, it's all appreciated.
And now for the test:
- Deinstalled driver for graphic, run driversweeper and installed new Again, but no luck, still freezing
- It freezes in games, IE11 (one tap), Chrome (one tap). Have experienced it freezing one time, just stading idle after 5 min.
- Preinstalled AV = Norton AV, first thing I removed when I got it, and every time I have refreshed PC to fabric.
- Has run ram test, no errors found
- Has run gwscan, no errors on HDD.

All further tips welcome :)
Now I have ordered more RAM, going from 4gb to 8gb, hopefully that will help.

Hi All

Now I just found out that my PC could not be upgraded with Ram.
I was so disappointed that I took the PC apart and then reassembled it again.
And actually that did the trick. It does now run as it should again, and I do not know what I did to make it good again. And that is also frustrating.
But thanks for all the help.
