Computer freezes, unfreezes with single beep, only happens with IE10

I searched Google and found that this issue can mean anything from too much memory use to a nuclear bomb is about to go off inside the motherboard.

I've replicated the problem (unwillingly) a few times and been able to narrow it down to Internet Explorer 10.


About two months ago, I had my whole computer wiped and OS reinstalled by someone else. Internet Explorer 10 was installed in it, too. Ever since then, I've had at least 3-4 instances of this happening:


- When opening a new tab or new window, if I've had IE windows open for a long time, or if other programs are all up and going at the same time, Explorer.exe will freeze, for about 4-5 seconds. I can still move the mouse. Then the mouse will freeze, for another 3-4 seconds, then a single short BOOP will sound, and everything will go back to normal, no error messages, no further problems with any program, no changes in any internal temperature.


This ONLY ever happens with Internet Explorer 10, and I've seen plenty of threads mentioning tab freezing with IE10 (but no beeps), and every piece of hardware in my comp is less than 1 year old (except for my secondary hard drive and power supply unit), and I replaced the motherboard last month. I had taken the computer to Geek Squad (they were the ones who did the wipe and OS reinstall the first time around) and they ran hardware tests when my original motherboard failed and said that all my components were fine except for either the Motherboard or CPU (which I narrowed down to the motherboard and replaced and it's been fine since).


This issue is extremely rare and causes no apparent lasting damage; this latest time around, I had a game open in another window, and when the computer froze, the game's music and sounds kept playing, uninterrupted, with no skipping or glitching. And this ONLY ever happens with Internet Explorer 10.

Is this just an IE10 memory overload problem? (IE has always, as long as I can remember, hoarded up memory from constant browsing to the point where a single open window can be hogging a full gigabyte of virtual memory in the Task Manager) Or should I be thinking/worrying it's a hardware concern?

Bumping because this problem has recently started happening again. It stopped shortly after I posted this, and now it has started again about a few days ago.


What's concerning me is that this only ever happens with Internet Explorer, and only ever seems to happen with certain websites, and it only happens once per boot. Meaning, I can boot up my computer, go to www.example.com (not actual website), have the computer freeze for a bit, then unfreeze with a single beep heard through the speakers, then not have that issue occur again until I turn off the computer and turn it back on and do the same thing over again.


I checked my IE addons and found that I had updated my Adobe Flash plugin to 15.0.0.189 on October 16th. This freezing issue has started after that date, and the websites where it occurs on tend to be flash-heavy.


I'm sensing an obvious connection here. What should I do?

Hi and welcome back to SevenForums,
Internet explorer doesn't agree with some graphic's cards "so called" hybrids,
Try Internet options/ Advanced section/ Check the top box Use software rendering instead of gpu rendering/ Apply and okay.

You can also try Clean boot,

Use TFC save it to your desktop,
Right click it and Run as administrator
Start the scanner,
After it’s done close and boot or shut down your machine,

Also noticed that the info I posted in the OP is outdated; my graphics card is now a GTX 780, in case that is also considered a hybrid


EDIT: I tried enabling software acceleration.


This did not entirely fix the problem. However, this time around my computer did not completely freeze up (I could still move my mouse) and when it did unfreeze, it did not beep from anywhere. So I'm thoroughly convinced it's something to do with Internet Explorer and/or the addons I had mentioned
