Computer hangs at shutdown

I've just noticed this today. when I try to shutdown my computer via command or power button, it just hangs at "windows is shutting down". There is no disk activity.. I have no idea what to do.

Try closing all programs first, then test shutdown
Then try closing all stuff in the system tray (by the clock in the lower right corner) - and test
Then try closing all 3rd party stuff in the Processes tab of Task Manager - and test
