Computer keeps freezing, BSOD once

Hey, for the past week or so my laptop has been freezing 4-5 times a day. Also, sometimes when I leave the computer running and it goes into sleep mode its impossible to get out of. I have to do a force shut down and turn it back on. It has BSOD once about 2 days ago I think.

Its an ASUS N53S laptop with windows 7 64 bit OME. All the hardware isn't more then a year old.

It tried to do a system health report but I kept getting this error "The wait for the report generation tool to finish has timed out"

No DMP's included...



We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb varies).
* Ensure that the Small Dump Directory is listed as %systemroot%\Minidump.
* OK your way out.
* Reboot if changes have been made.

Sorry but there are no files in my minidump folder. I enabled minidumps as soon as I got my laptop, but I think using ccleaner may have deleted them. Also, about the overclockinng, I haven't overclocked anything.

Just a FYI...
Current accepted wisdom with Win 7 is to NOT use a cleaner.

If you ever think your Registry needs to be cleaned, repaired, boosted, tuned-up, cured, tweaked, fixed, or optimized it shouldn't.

In other words, injudicious use of "Registry cleaners" CAN & DOES cause problems.

IMO - there is no reliable way for a third party program to know whether any particular key is invalid, redundant or neither.
Some registry cleaners may not know for sure whether a key is still being used by Windows or what detrimental effects removing it may have.
This has led to examples of registry cleaners causing loss of functionality and/or system instability.


Should you ever decide to go ahead again -
Make sure you have
1.a current System Restore point created.
2.a recent "Back up" of your computer- preferably to an external HD.

There are several reasons that may prevent you from having a DMP file in the usual places.

If your control panel is not configured for small dump you probably will then find it in C:\windows and it will be called MEMORY.dmp. It will overwrite every crash.

Other reasons are if you have UAC turned off, if you have a small page file, or a page file on a different HD than the OS.

I never used ccleaner registry cleaner.
*Edit* I forgot to mention, I can not find the MEMORY.dmp file anywhere.
