I apologize if this issue has been dealt with elsewhere. I see that there are detailed suggestions for dealing with windows 7 performance issues and these might resolve my problem (or not). However I have already implemented many of these (I think).
e.g.
Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup
I am running Windows 7 64 bit on a 1 year old Lenovo with i7-6400U, 8GB RAM, 500GB HD.
I have had this PC for almost one year and have been using 'selective startup' for almost that time w/o problems. For a couple of days however, while online the computer will freeze after about 5-10 minutes.
For a week or so before that I could not login to gmail but that seemed solved when I changed my password.
I have run my antivirus (Webroot) and anti-malware MalwareBytes (sp?) with nothing found. This has been done while online (until that became impossible) and in safe mode.
Last night I let my PC run offline for a while and it was OK although in Task Mgr. I noticed that CPU usage would sometimes spike up to about 40%. There are no processes that seem to use a great deal of CPU. However, I cannot open 'Resource Monitor.' Even though I use the selective startup there are about 100 processes running while offline.
Yesterday I restored the computer to its state of the previous morning with no effect.
I have looked for 'suspicious' processes but it seems difficult if not impossible to find conclusive information online about which are 'bad.'
Other than following the suggestions elsewhere on this site I am considering the following:
1. Restore to an earlier point if possible.
2. Change browsers
3. Make sure I have copies of all file and use the Windows 7 system recovery discs I got from Lenovo.
Any thoughts or questions are welcome.
Thanks in advance.
William
