Computer locks up

When I start my computer everything starts as normal, then after 5 minutes or so it locks up. The unusual thing is that I can run in safe mode without issue until any program or I try to access one particular folder which happens to be a specific music folder. If I run McAfee, Malwarebytes or AVG the scan goes as normal until it gets to that folder and then locks up. I have tried deleting the folder, but as soon as it starts to delete the computer locks up. I can play music in itunes as long as I don't try and play the songs in that particular folder.
I have tried deleting the folder in DOS, but can't complete the delete. I can get to the directory and see the individual song files, but when I try to delete get the message cannot find file. Same thing if I try to delete the folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for such a quick response. I have tried full scans with McAfee, AVG and Malwarebytes. When they get to the same folder the computer locks up.

I have tried running after normal start up (if it does lock up to quick) and in safe mode. All with the same results, locks up when it gets to the same folder. This is a really strange problem. Any idea how I could try deleting this folder in DOS? Folders and file names have spaces in them. Although I doubt it would work as AVG running in safe mode appears to be running in DOS and locks up when it gets to the folder.

Well, I don't know what I have, but it's nasty. I downloaded unlocker and couldn't get it to work. Then I right clicked on the problematic folder selected McAfee Shredder. It started and then locked up. Rebooted again in Safe Mode right clicked on the folder and ran Malwarebytes. It started then locked up. Then I went to an elevated command prompt, entered rd/s/q and the folder location hit enter. It looked like it was going to work and then locked up. I still have a little hope that we can fix this without reformatting, but the light is getting dimmer....

Oh yeah, I also tried doing a restore from a date before the problem started and that locked up as well.

Sounds more and more like it was meant not to be removed. Virus, malware or worse?
