Computer Name Forced Back when Changed

Hello,

I've searched far and wide for an answer to this, it's driving me up the wall. So here is the problem, I'm in control of 52 Computers that I took from my co-worker. I set up a master computer then clone an image and pass it to the rest, no biggie there. The issue I have is, when I'm setting up the master Image I go to Computer Properties to change the Computer Name: Currently reads something like XYZ-F0C1DC (Prefix followed by the last 6 digits of the Ethernet Adapters MAC. ) I go to change it to something like ThisIsATest and it accepts it tells me to reboot to finalize, so I reboot. Upon start up a popup message states "Computer will now shutdown" or something along those lines, and it will reboot again. When it does that, it reverts back to the XYZ-Last6 name. I'm sure it has something to do with someone setting this up, but I haven't the slightest clue as to what they did to do that, and how I go about getting rid of it. I'd like to manually name my computers and not have them forced back to that other naming convention. Hopefully someone out there knows the answer, so thank you ahead of time.

Welcome to the forum. There are problems just cloning lots of PCs as they will all have the same sid etc so it can be a problem as there all the same the correct way is to use Sysprep then clone so a mini install will run at start

if you unjoin your domain, then join a workgroup, and only then rename the computer, then reboot, does that work?
