Solved Computer not booting up - New processor

Hi,

Just purchased a new processor for my PC, after messing about with removing the fan (Arctic Cooler 7) and fitting the new processor, refit the fan and now when I turn the PC on it all kicks in then shuts down again after 2 - 3 seconds.

Following this it boots back up and repeats over and over until I finally turn it off at the power.

I went out and picked up some thermal paste, unscrewed the fan again (what a bitch), put some paste down and fitted everything back together. Same problem.

I have read up on some topics around the net and it could be any one of a billion things, just hoped somebody may have experienced the same thing and have some insight, thanks :D

You may have damaged the CPU, or you have not properly applied the thermal paste, or the new CPU itself is DOA (Dead On Arrival). Most likely it's the CPU being DOA. The reason why I think this is because your CPU shouldn't be overheating so quick to trigger the overheating safety mechanism, and unless you damaged the CPU during installation, it'd have to be DOA. It happens.

When you applied the thermal paste, did you make sure to properly remove any existing paste prior to doing so? In addition, have you applied a thin, even layer of the paste? You may wanna do it over again just to make sure. While you're at it, you should pull out the CPU and check to see if there aren't any cracks or bent pins. If there is a bent pin, bending it back most likely will not work and you will have to have it replaced.
