Hello all,

I have a problem here that I haven't been able to solve. Here is my network setup...

Code:
                                       |--- Brother's Computer(XP)
Internet -- Server(Gentoo Linux) -- Switch -- My Computer(7)
                                       |--- Mom's Computer(7)
From my computer I can see the server and my brothers computer.

From my mom's computer I can't see anything on the network.

My mom's computer isn't visible to any of the computers on the network.

The problem is getting my mom's computer visible on the network because she has the printer attached to her computer and I need to configure the printer to work on my computer.

So my question. How can I get my Mom's computer to show up on My Computer when I click "Network"?

Are you running homegroup?

Can you type ipconfig /all in search and upload the output?

Thanks

@JC99 Please search the forums on sharing a printer from a Windows 7 machine, there are a lot of them, we have discovered that Windows 7 does not share a printer well if at all. Your best bet is to buy a USB to Network device and put your printer on the network. Then everything including your server can print to it, and you do NOT have to leave your Mom's machine on all the time because it is the pseudo print server.

As far as the OP of you not seeing your Mom's machine have you tried turning off the Windows Firewall as a test. If you do and now you can see the machine then you know that your firewall settings need to be adjusted. -WS

Thanks for the reply. I know how to share a printer on Windows 7. I don't want to buy a USB to network device. I want to keep my setup the way it is. The problem is my mom's computer isn't visible when I open "Network" on my computer so I can't see the printer attached to her computer. Both computers are running Windows 7. I have tried a bunch of things including disabling the firewall but that didn't make a difference. I know it's probably just a setting somewhere that is causing this problem I just don't know what that setting could be.

If the firewall is disabled and you still have the problem, then it must be something else. Do you have a 3rd party AV running? If so disable that too and test again. -WS

I do have AV on both computers configured the same way yet my mom's computer is the only one exhibiting problems so I doubt that is the problem. But I will double check just in case.

I couldn't figure out what had to be done so I just reinstalled windows on my Mom's computer and now everything is working.

My guess is she changed a setting somewhere that caused the problem. I tried a number of solutions from posts I found searching Google but none of them worked.

All is well now.
