Computer POSTs but only stays on for a few seconds then shuts off

Hello,

I feel I should mention that this build previously didn't POST, but I took a look at the processor and saw it had a few bent pins. I tried to straighten them out as best I could, refitted the processor (this took a little bit of persuasion).

Now my computer POSTS, gets past the splash screen then tells me it cant boot into an operating system (which is expected as I don't have one installed, this is a new build) then shuts off. When I restart it, it POSTs and stays on for a shorter time, then I restart it again and it stays on for an even shorter time.

Is this a problem with the processor? Is it a home fix? Do I need a new processor?

I am assuming it can be cause of CPU pins been bent

What kind of CPU cooler are you using? Is it installed correctly, and is the fan running? It sounds like an overheating issue.

Can you enter the bios? Does the CPU show up in there?

If you still don't have an OS installed then it will just keep rebooting I imagine.

this can also be a sign of a failing power supply.. but since youve got a cpu with bent pins.. its almost an irrelevant thought

I don't recall ever dealing with bent pins on a cpu but if the mobo completes the POST I think that should indicate the cpu is good. POST checks cpu-memory-gpu-OS, the first being verify CPU registers. If it completes POST and gives you 1 short beep then I would assume the cpu is OK.

What beep code are you getting?

I would just contact AMD and have it replaced they will do it with no questions asked why even fart around

You already pointed out bent pins and it booted when you moved them don't play with it anymore as you will break the pins eventually

Give AMD a shout and they will have you a chip with in a couple days case closed
