Hey,
My computer is 4 days old, everything is updated, i downloaded a temperature monitor. All looks fine..
For some reason it just randomly freezes from time to time. screen doesn't go black just completely locks up everything at same time. Leaving me with no choice but to restart the computer. any ideas would be great, thanks.
My computer specs are

My Problem was a Trojan so scan your System.. if this doesn't work open CMD and type sfc /scannow

Hi Nathan and welcome

First if your computer is 4 days old and under warranty, have the mfr/distributor fix it. If not

There are several ways to find what the problem is. The best is to go into event viewer (type eventvwr in search). Go to the windows log>application tab.

You want to look for critical errors (they have red in the left column ).

When you find them you want to look for critical errors that say app hang, app crash, or anything that relates to the problem.

When you find them please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

hey zigzag,

my computer is under warranty but i bought it online and they are roughly 4 5 hours away. :P
Anyways i had a look at event viewer. i couldnt find any critical errors in the applications tab. I only found 8 of the same critical error in the admin events tab under custom views.
Details of the error:
Source: Kernel-Power
Event ID: 41
Task Category 63
The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

I'm guessing that's from me restarting the computer after its frozen.

Hi there. Does it do this when IE is running? I had a similar issue and was then advised to change some settings in IE, have not had the lock up since. My screen would freeze and all indicators on keyboard and mouse would turn off. System appeared stable when IE was not running.

Hey 2000zx, I actually use Mozilla fire fox. I haven't found any problems so far with Fire Fox. I did recently just install the latest IE but i don't think that's the problem. So far its only happened while im gaming. In 3 different games, but i only use this comp for gaming.

Hey, i think i solved the problem. I decided to check windows update again and found that i had a sound driver update and a important security update that needed installing.
Not sure why it didn't automatically install it. I did notice that it was set for 3AM though so perhaps that's why.
Anyways so far i haven't had any issues. Looks like that could of been the problem.
Thank you for the help.

Regards Nathan.
