Computer restarted with no errors.

hmm my first post in this section.

Just now the computer suddenly restarted without any errors or bsods. I was listening to music at the time. When the desktop came back, messenger didnt load itself automatically like it normally does.

Event viewer states:

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Event ID 41.

Wonder if this is either a minor power fluctuation from mains causing the reset or a device issue such as sound card (I was listening to music at the time).

The prevailing wisdom says one of three things

1-if you have realtek audio an driver conflict can cause it.

2-Bios. One thread is that the cpu's were not stepping corectly-- bios upgrade

3- Power supply- either line voltage or marginal PSU

1. dont have realtek,
2. bios was updated last year to latest
3. so psu?

yeah it was a one off (so far).

We do live in the countryside so could have been a power spike maybe. Although I do use surge protectors.
