Computer shuts off when I press Eject button on DVD Drive

Morning,

Totally odd one here and the first time I have every seen it. Recently built a new studio (recording) rig...with the following parts:

• [FONT=&quot]Memory: 16 GB Kingston HyperX Genesis DDR3-1600MHz w/ Intel XMP[/FONT]
• [FONT=&quot]Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST 24x DVD-RW Drive[/FONT]
• [FONT=&quot]HD1: Crucial M4 2.5in SATA III Solid State Drive, 128GB[/FONT]
• [FONT=&quot]HD2: Seagate 500GB Barracuda 7200.12[/FONT]
• [FONT=&quot]HD3: Seagate 1TB Barracuda 7200.12[/FONT]
• [FONT=&quot]Case: Coolermaster CM 690 II Advanced[/FONT]
• [FONT=&quot]PSU: Corsair HX 650 Professional Series[/FONT]
• [FONT=&quot]OS: Windows 7 Professional 64 Bit SP1[/FONT]

Yesterday (and then again today) I used the DVD drive (basically for it's firs real usage) to rip a few CDs. I ripped a couple with no issues...but then suddenly - after about the third or 4th rip - I would merely reach down, press the Eject button on the drive and the machine would instantly shutdown. No blue screen, no message, no nothing.

At first I thought it was static or something - just reaching over to the machine and pressing the button Event viewer says nothing. However I did see one obscure message back on Oct 7th that stated this:

"The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Ide\IdePort0."

Gotta think that's this DVD drive port. But no other messages at all since then.

Anyone got ANY ideas as to what the heck is going on? It's a SATA drive - maybe a cable? Maybe the drive controller is actually FUBAR-ed? Maybe the power supply? Motherboard (I hope not)

FYI: No other problems whatsoever with the rig if I do not touch the drive

Appreciate any ideas on where I should start looking.

VP, I would check out the Power Supply as pressing the eject button will increase the power drain on your PS.

Just an idea.
Do you have another DVD drive to replace it with in case it is the drive not the PS?

Yep - I have a bunch of drives here. That's probably the easiest fix to try first....

Will report back.
