Recently my computer started shutting down randomly. I've downloaded Bluescreenviewer which said that the driver causing the crash was totrec8.sys. I've since deleted the driver, but the computer still shuts down on its own. Two days ago it shut down at least 6 times.

The computer is x86 64 bit. Original installed version is Windows 7. Age 2 years. The age of OS is 2 years, haven't reinstalled it.

Did you delete totrec8.sys - or did you uninstall Total Recorder? If you didn't uninstall Total Recorder please do so now.

The system is x64 (64 bit). x86 is 32 bit

Please ensure that Driver Verifier is turned off. Do this by opening the program and selecting "Delete existing settings'. Then click on Finish and reboot the system for the changes to take effect(?affect?).

Perfmon shows video card issues. Please:
- uninstall all ATI video driver stuff
- reinstall the DRIVERS ONLY using this procedure: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure

SP1 isn't installed, please do the following:
Installing Windows 7 Service Pack 1
1. Visit the PC manufacturer's website and update ALL drivers. DO NOT use Windows Update or the "Update drivers" function of Device Manager.
2. Check Device Manager for any unknown/disabled devices - if there are unknown/disabled devices, fix them with the latest drivers from the device manufacturer's website (not the PC Manufacturer)
3. Visit Windows Update and get all updates (may take repeated visits)
4. Visit Windows Update and get Service Pack 1 (usually under Important Updates). Read these notes for installing SP1: Steps to follow before you install Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 from the Microsoft Download Center
5. Visit Windows Update and get any other available updates. May take repeated visits, but keep it up until you get several "Windows is updated" results.

I have had limited success in installing updates/Service Packs when using a "clean boot". I suspect that I'm just bypassing the problem - and that it can come back to bite me in the butt later on.

Wasn't able to get much info on the memory dumps as most appear corrupted (and they crash my debugger). But here's what I got:

I've installed ATI driver through AMD Catalyst manager so I've uninstalled AMD Catalyst manager, but now screen is wide as hell. Shoud I just reinstall AMD Catalyst manager.

Just reinstall the DRIVERS ONLY with this procedure: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure
That'll leave out the other ATI stuff (which could be causing issues).

If you miss any of the additional ATI features, feel free to install the entire Catalyst Suite after the system is stabilized.

Can you uninstall the AMD External Events utility through the AMD Catalyst Install Manager? I've seen many problems with this program and you'd be better off with it removed from your system.

Are there any new memory dumps? If so, please zip them up and upload them with your next post.

I didn't install the catalyst manager I've only installed amddownloader for direct recognition. Does that mean I have to install Catalyst Manager and delete AMD events through there. Somehow I'm puzzled as how to do that. Nothing new in minidumps folder.

Generate a new set of jcgriff2 reports. We may be able to find stuff about this error in some of the reports there (even though it's not a BSOD).

AMD External Events utility is atiesrxx.exe
Try this:
1) Make a System Repair Dicc. Go to Start...All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc
2) Test the disk and make sure you can boot with it and get into System Restore
3) Then, make a System Restore point.

4) Then use Autoruns (you downloaded it for the jcgriff2 reports) to find any instance of atiesrxx.exe Disable it by removing the checkmark in the far left column.

5) Then locate atiesrxx.exe by searching your hard drive. Rename it to atiesrxx.BAD
6) Reboot and check to make sure that atiesrxx remains renamed.

If you can't get back into Windows, use the System Repair Disc to get into System Restore and use the System Restore point that you set earlier to restore the system to a point before you made the changes.

Uninstall Microsoft Security Essentials - it's giving even more errors than the ATI External Events utility.

Are you running more than one antivirus? I see references to ESET in the application log files. If so, please uninstall all but one (and ensure that the Windows Firewall is working if you're not protected by another firewall).

I've downloade autoruns. Here is what I found on my hard drive:

It's installed twice with the same date.

This was done before I made a system repair disc and system restore.

Are we sure that atiesrxx.exe is causing the shutdowns? Isn't that part of the AMD? How come that I couldn't get back into windows if I delete them?
