Computer unusable due to frequent crashes, even on startup.

I haven't identified a pattern, but now I get crashes too frequently to use my 2006 Gateway desktop. I just did a clean install of Windows 7 yesterday, with no success in resolving my crashes. Seeking help. Thanks in advance. See below and also attached files.

Start by updating to more recent drivers for your video card:

Driver	c:\windows\system32\drivers\nvlddmkm.sys (8.15.11.8593, 9.40 MB (9,853,248 bytes), [COLOR="Blue"]7/13/2009[/COLOR] 4:09 PM)

Click on the Start rb: ► Control Panel ► Programs ► Uninstall a program ► Uninstall everything related to; NVIDIA then delete remnants of its drivers/older drivers using Driver Fusion/Sweeper

Reboot the computer between each process.

Check for driver updates from Device Manager, by expanding the list under Display Adapters.

Once drivers have been installed reboot.

Download and install the drivers from the link of filehippo bellow:

BTW, what antivirus are you using?

Recommended antivirus program for Windows 7 based on stability compared to others:-

Run a full scan with both (separately) once downloaded, installed and updated.

Run the System File Checker that scans the of all protected Windows 7 system files and replaces incorrect corrupted, changed/modified, or damaged versions with the correct versions if possible:

Run Disk Check on your hard disk for file system errors and bad sectors on it:

For monitoring the heat/celsius of the system, use Speccy or HWinfo:

Also look for a newer version on your BIOS:

Thanks KoolKat77. I performed all of the above and am still getting BSOD.

Items to note:
1) I was using Trend Micro Titanium Anti Virus, but replaced it with what you recommended during this troubleshooting.
2) There were no further BIOS updates (the last was dated 3/16/2007). I checked on the Gateway support site, as well as the Intel web site.
Not sure where to go from here. Maybe I could provide latest crash zip file if you desire. Let me know. Thanks.

I have read through some of the 116 thread, but just need to work my way through it, as I can devote time. I bought this computer in Dec 2006 (Gateway) and started with XP, shortly thereafter upgraded to VISTA. Started getting problems with BSOD 6 months ago or so. I bought Windows 7 and did a clean install, thinking that over the years of my kids using it, there were likely many software issues. BSOD continued. I did buy another desktop replacement just a couple of months ago, but maybe it is time to retire this one. Sometimes I can work on it when it runs okay, but sometimes I just have to work in Safe-networking mode as it crashes too often.

If you did a clean install of w7 over Vista, had BSOD issues before and after, it might be that there are hardware issues. Running a memtest is a good check as most everything that machine does relies on memory.

Typical hardware problems with older machines is overheating CPU, RAM and PSU.

System specs will help.
You can use this app to find them: Speccy Free System information Utility
Then enter them in the 'My System Specs' drop box at the lower left of any of your posts.

Check the CPU core temps.
Use Core Temp , to check the CPU temps when at idle, under load and/or testing.
Let us know the minimum and maximum temps you get.

Run the RAM test as F5ing suggested.

The PSU is difficult to test, after the other tests are done and if your still having issues, the PSU can be tested.
