Hi All,

I have a HTPC that I just built. Recently I opted to go with Cablecard to save some money as well as better versatility over the regular DVRs.

Anyhow, everything is working fine, except when I let the computer to be on and I turn off the TV, If I come back after a while, I can not see the screen anymore. It is black screen. I know the computer is working but it's like no signal comes to the TV from the computer to turn it on.

I have a ATI Radeon HD 5450 graphic card with the latest software from AMD. Windows 7 32 bit is up to date as well. Can anyone advice me what seems to be the issue and how to resolve it?

Thanks

Blank Screen on Resume

I used to have this problem with an afox gt550 ti (Nvidia) it was connected by HDMI so if i turned it off the pc would revert to default monitor (which did not exist) in the end i fixxed it by downloading new drivers but for the interim (i'm not sure where to find it on ati gear) you could force detection of the tv.

if you RDP to the computer while it is blank what do you see ? and what options are there in the display.msc ?

Hi Imnewey,

Thanks for your comments. I suppose I should mention that my HTPC is connected to the TV via HDMI cable. On the ATI utilities, I can not find any options forcing the detection of the TV. I just don't know where to find it?

As for the RDP, I have not tried that option yet. What effect could RDP have in awakening the TV?
How do you use display.msc command?

wake up problem

if you remote to the computer using remote desktop in console mode you should be able to see if the computer is recognising the screen. to remote to a console type "mstsc /admin" in to your run bar (on a diffrent computer) and then type the ip or name of the htpc.

if this fails or does not bear any fruit (it may create a new session and not give any new information) you could install vnc (tight vnc works well with 7) vnc will show what is being displayed if anything on the htpc.

out of curiousity if you unplug your mouse will the screen is blacked out do you get sound ( as in is the computer locked up or just not displaying anything )

i have no ATI's so i am not sure were to find the option to force display of a tv. me feels a google coming on

sleep issue

this may sound retarded but try installing this

You cannot make a computer that is running Windows 7 shut down or sleep

my understanding that is that when you turn the screen off it adjusts some geometry of visible space this kb is for a sleep issue but handles gui sleep problems as well try installing and let me know how it goes.

on another note have you tried rolling back the drivers ?
