Hi forum, so my computer has been awsome for alot of years now, no problemas, but all of a sudden after start up, I cant do anything, the farthest I can get is opening file exploror, but if I try to go into hard drive properties to defrag my had drive (because I heard that would solve this issue) I cant even make it that far... I really hope someone has some good info as to how to fix this issue without havig to by a new hard drive/take my computter in? And questions or further info u need just ask please and thanks!

I think you already know the prime suspect: the hard drive.

The first step is to run a diagnostic test on your drive. If available, use the one from your HDD's manufacturer. Also (obviously) you want to run a test from bootable media (CD), since it doesn't make a lot of sense to test a drive from a program running on the drive.

Your first post indicates you can boot and start Windows, getting all the way to the desktop.
Your second post is confusing.

If the PC can boot you can run the diagnostic software from a boot CD.

To get to Safe Mode, press F8 as the PC starts up and choose it from the Advanced Boot Options menu.

Preliminary indications are that the HDD is dying. As suggested, backup any important data you may have and look immediately into replacing the HDD as soon as possible.

HDDs are highly complex, precision electronic devices. Even skilled technicians can't truly "repair" a drive, most of the time what HDD data recovery technicians do is transplant the disk platters (the thing that physically holds the data) into a working HDD so the data can be recovered onto a new HDD.

So in short, no, there's nothing you can do to repair the HDD yourself unfortunately. The best you can do is to backup any important data if you haven't already and then replace the dying HDD with a new one.
