Hi i've had my laptop for a little over a month now and just now it's decided to stop connecting to the internet. It won't recognize anything when I plug in my ethernet cable yet when I plug it into my xbox or desktop they both connect to the internet, so it isn't the cable, the internet or the router. So I figured ok that sucks but if I just connect it wirelessly it should be ok right? So i went out and bought a wireless router configured it yet my computer won't detect it the wireless network. Not only will it not detect the one I set up I can't get it to see any wireless networks even protected ones like my neighbours. I borrowed my dads laptop and it connected to the network withou problem. So simply put i'm stumped as ****. I never tried to connect wirelessly before today because I never needed to.

However I also borrowed his usb rocket stick type thing (telus not rodgers though) and I can get on the internet using that.

This is my last resort before I take it into a computer shop who will of course make me pay out of my ass. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!mjjfdg

Many laptops have Fn/hotkeys to turn on/off WiFi, Bluetooth, Ethernet... some, if the BIOS has been updated, will even default to leaving these facilities disabled. Failing that the only thing which comes to mind is that you have not got the drivers for these devices installed correctly.

It's an MSI laptop and I don't see a switch and have no idea what the hotkey is, google didn't help. I downloaded an "Intel Wireless Lan" driver off the MSI website but it did not help.

Go back to your original configuration (original router + ethernet connection to your Laptop.)

Now Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center > Change adapter settings > select Local Area Connection and check whether it is enabled. If disabled enable it.

If it is enabled and still you are not getting connected, click on diagnose connection problems and check.

OS
Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit
You could also check in Bios whether the LAN and wi-fi adapters are enabled or disabled. If disabled, enable them in Bios.

Once in windows go to Device Manager and check these two network adapters. Check whether the respective drivers are installed or not.

Once the drivers are installed, try to connect again.

Wireless hotkey is normally fn+f2 or similar. But that won't explain the wired option not working.

Have you tried a system restore to the point when it last worked?
