HP laptop with win 7 won't start nor will it repair or restore.

Happened all of sudden, without any reason?

Try to boot into recovery environment and do a startup repair
or system restore

It started when the comp froze. I had to turn it off w the pwr button. On restart got bsod, just one time. Now it goes to start repair. Will not repair or restore..

startup repair has a clickable text something like "view diagnostic details". Click on it. What action doesn't return status 0x0?

in recover environment->command prompt:

dir c:
dir d:
dir e:

Wat is you windows drive letter? Assume it's D

chkdsk/f  D:

Replace D with actual drive letter! any error? Repaired?
Eventually run twice. All repaired?

replce D with actual drive letter
takes hours to complete, but let it complete. Any errors?
Windows 7 recovery environment->memory diagnotistics. Let it run whole night when you sleep. In the morning check if you have faulty memory.

Most of the time it's faulty memory.

Did you do Chkdsk /f /r or Chkdsk /f ?

The first one as actually the same as last one. Only extra is step 4 and 5, that takes a long time to complete. it outputs only a few lines (if disk is running healthy). You can see the progress in blocks. Assume the progress is 1000blocks each minute and the total amount of blocks is 50000. Then it takes about 50 minutes to complete. Look at the screen when it's finishing!! So you see the results!

But most likely you have faulty memory!

Yes I ran that test too...did take awhile...no problems indicated..running memory test now.

Memory checks ok on the laptop test? On my opening message here it shows 0x50 in the sig 7.entry is that bug check 50? Mem prob?

What happens exactly when booting normally? Try to boot safe mode

It either starts with the win logo to a black screen or it starts to start repair. Tried eight repairs and the check disk you recommended. Won't go to a screen with safe mode option. I don't see any errors on disk check.

No prob indicated on disk chk. Last line says failed to transfer logged messages to the event log with status 50.

Or you can proceed now to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. Read the Special notes at end for HP owners. Follow the steps closely to get a perfect reinstall which is vastly superior to the bloated HP preinstall .

Well the easiest way to fix this is re install windows/ Format and it fix all your problems but the major problem is you loose all your files. Do you have a windows 7 disc?
