I have finally got the ISO following the forum advice, I have burned it on a DVD and the computer just won't use it. I have gone to the bios and set them to the CD-rom drive and my USB-pen drive. I have tried all sorts of other orders, including disabling the other two and it just brings me to either nothing or at best to a page that says windows did not start sucessfully and I'm given options of safe mode or last known configurations etc. It spins the disk hard, but just can't seem to look at it.

I just want it to use the DVD to run the start process for Windows 7! What am I doing wrong? Thanks

EDIT: Running 32bit XP, trying to run student 64bit pro

Starting with the most obvious: did you simply copy the iso to a DVD? That won't work. In XP, you need to use a program to unpack and burn the iso files. What program did you use?

Thanks, I thought that was optional. I never realised that there were different types of burning. I'll give that a go!

From an ISO file you need to create a "boot disk" extracting files to put them on a DVD. You can't just burn an ISO put in the DVD player and hope it works. Think of an ISO as a Winzip compressed folder. In order to get the contents within it you need to extract it to view the files. So this works the same way. More info on how to create an "boot disk" using ISO please follow below to get you started. (Optional but simple enough for your basic home needs).

Good luck!

Been a while since I used Nero, but as I recall, you select "burn image" from the file menu and point it to the iso file. Googling "burn iso dvd with Nero" should give you plenty of hits if my recollection is wrong.

Ok will do that. It's running the files, so I'll see how it goes. I bet there will be some other problem before long!

Oh how prophetic.

"Windows cannot open the required file E:\Sources\install.wim. Make sure all files required for installation are available and restart the installation. Error code: 0x8007000D."

This isn't my day.

This is the error message after you burn and place this in the DVD drive? Be more specific where on your screen this error occurs? Sugestion is make sure when burning your DVD it's set at the lowest burn speed. This will ensure copied information is complete. Just a thought.

The error message for the windows 7 installation occurs... during the windows installation. I burned the ISO files on the auto setting which wasn't fast.

Hmmmm. I think I will start again, re-download 7 and then with ISO-burner software re-do it and try and install. I'll come back on here tomorrow and start a new thread if I have any probs.

Thanks
