Welcome to the Seven Forums.

So where is the recovery disk?

If you haven't got one or have not made it then do you at least have the Product Key? If you have then please download an ISO image of your version of Windows 7 from http://www.mydigitallife.info/official-windows-7-sp1-iso-from-digital-river/. Please make a Windows 7 Installation DVD from it and use it either for recovering or clean re-installing Windows 7 using your original Product Key.

Please make sure that you download the version you were using and not some other version, otherwise this procedure shall not work.

If yours is a Laptop then the Product Key would be on a sticker stuck to the base of your laptop. Please write it down and keep it safely. If a Desktop then it shall be somewhere in the manuals that you received with the Desktop.

Kindly check.

The first thing that you should do is to copy it very carefully on a piece of paper and preserve it even more carefully.

The next thing to do would be to download the ISO image of your version of the Windows 7. You have not given out your version in the system specs so I do not know it but you should be knowing it.

With these two tasks done you should prepare a Windows 7 Installation DVD next. That done tell us about it so that we may proceed further.

I was about to add a PS to the earlier message. Dell used to supply the best back up DVDs/CDs with their Computers. Make one last ditch effort to locate if you have them somewhere. That will save you from downloading the ISO image.

Yes you can download and store the ISO image of Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit on a Pen Drive. If you can't find the manufacturer supplied CDs/DVDs then please do that and when finished give the feed-back. Rest of of your queries will be answered in good time so don't worry please.

It seems that the later thread started by OP has been merged with this earlier one. We are in fact waiting for his input on the downloading of the ISO image before we proceed further about creating a Windows 7 DVD.

Once you have the ISO image you have to either make a Windows 7 installation DVD from it or make a bootable USB Stick. The link on how to make a bootable stick is given in a message from EzioAuditore. You may follow that if you prefer to make a bootable pen drive.

I prefer a bootable DVD because my computer is old and the BIOS don't support booting from a USB Drive. The method to do so is at http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/548-burn-disc-image-iso-img-file.html. However you can do this intuitively with most burning software.

Once you are armed with one of them (bootable DVD or Pen Drive), then and then alone you shall be able to boot into the Windows environment. If you have never made a bootable disk/USB just take the image to a computer savvy friend with a blank DVD and he shall do it for you easily in a few minutes. The burning speed should not exceed 4 as higher speeds might create a defective disk. But before that please try out the advise from gregrocker and if that works then you may be saved all the hassle. But even if you succeed you should still complete the project of creating a bootable DVD for the future.

Please tell the what course you have followed. Good luck.
