Computer wont boot up

My laptop basicly just crashed and then wouldnt boot correctly anymore. when i turn it on it says that it failed to start. When i use safe mode it loads all the files but then restarts the computer and says it failed to start. when i load startup repair, it just shows the blue background screen and stays that way without loading. i didnt get any installation or repair disks, but id rather not buy them so im wondering if there is any other way to fix this?

One of the first things you can try is to reset your CMOS, I would help you to do that, but I don't know what type of laptop you have.

I cant boot the computer, so im unable to do that. My laptop is a Gateway nv7915u

You don't need to boot the computer to reset the CMOS, you need to take a panel off to remove the battery that is mounted on the motherboard.

I would like you to try a different way to overcome your boot problems.

You will need to boot to the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/666-advanced-boot-options.html screen.

I have been trying to find out which Function key you need to start tapping as soon as you start the laptop, but haven't yet.

• It is usually the F2, F8, F12, or Del keys, until I do you can try each one until you find out which one it is. Make your taps no more than one second apart.

If your machine boots to the BIOS screen when using F2 you should see the main BIOS screen.

• Use the arrow keys to navigate to the line that says Reset to Default values, touch Enter or Return.
• It will ask if you want to do this? Touch Y for Yes.
• You should return to the Main screen.
• Then you need to exit, go to Save and Exit, touch Y again then the Enter key.

Allow the machine to try and finish booting. If it does not then shutdown, restart, and try the remaining F keys.

• You will know when to try another key when it continues to try to start, and you see the error message.
• Then you have to shut it down, and start the procedure over again with the next key.

If you can get to the Advanced Boot Options Screen as shown in step 3# you will see a list of options.

• Use the down arrow key until the highlight rests on Last Know Good Configuration (advanced).
• Then touch Enter or Return and allow the machine to finish the boot process.

Please post back in detail any results, good or bad.

Nothing changed, i did it and the values reset to default like it changed f12 boot menu to disabled. and i got the the advanced boot menu using f8 and the last known good configuration also didnt change anything.

If the ability to reinstall from the previous method is not available or fails, recovery of the Operating System will need to be from Recovery Media. If you do not have a set of Gateway Recovery Media, you may purchase the set online from the Gateway Recovery Media Order Form.
