My computer is not starting. I've had a virus for about a week and yesterday I got a message that said something about a hard drive error. Now whenever I try to turn my computer on, it gets frozen on the loading screen before I type in my password. What should I do?

I tried a system restore and an error message keeps coming up saying the restore could not be completed...

Anyone?

Really need some help here.

Like the error message says, your harddrive could be going or gone. Is it making any tell tale noises ?

How can I do all that if I cannot get past the welcome screen?

I hate to keep bumping this but I really need help. I work fulltime online, and need to get this resolved very soon. If anyone can tell me how I can do what Greg suggested I would appreciate it. Again, the issue is I cannot get past the loading screen when the computer first starts as it freezes there every time.

If you click the blue links in the steps I wrote out for you they are illustrated tutorials for how to do them. You'll need access to another computer to download and burn the necessary disks using Windows Image Burner.

If this is factory preinstalled Win7 then you should have made your Recovery Disks when you set it up, and a Win7 System Repair Disk to boot into repair the computer if it won't start and the F8 System Recovery Options wont' boot.

I can help you with this download which also has the Repair function on it as shown in Option Two of the Recovery options tutorial above: Win7 Home Premium x86 SP1 English Official ISO download
Burn it to DVD or write to flash stick using Windows 7 USB-DVD Download Tool then boot and follow the steps to repair Win7 once you've disinfected it.

If you cannot repair Win7 using all of the steps in my previous post and the linked troubleshooting steps then you can copy out your files using DVD or Repair CD: Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console, then run Factory Recovery from its partition or disks, or use the WIn7 DVD provided for Clean Reinstalling Windows 7.

i ran into a problem "somewhat" similar on a friends netbook that i was working on, now keep in mind this is not the BEST option, nor is it the easiest option because it requires a tad bit of know how in the computer world (not tryin to put you down, i just dont know how much experience you have) his computer (running XP) would not boot what so ever, gave him a black screen with a flashing cursor, so what i did was, on another "working" computer, loaded Ubuntu Linux onto a thumbdrive, restarted his computer with the thumbdrive in the usb slot and booted from the thumbdrive and ran Ubuntu, then copied ALL of his files (using the Ubuntu OS) to another external harddrive, once i verified with him that i had everything he wanted off his netbook , i formatted and installed windows seven, with dual boot of Ubuntu so he can get out of the situation on his own later if need be, then just put all of his files back to their respectful places and gave him his computer back, in the end it got the job done. i havent been on this site very long, and i know there are others that have WAY more knowledge than i do (i.e. Greg) but in my experience anytime i have an issue, instead of trying to rack my brain figuring it out, i simply format and clean reinstall, and havent found a problem that that cannot fix...but im a lil OCD on keeping things clean

SORRY FOR THE LONG READ

Greg- you are too quick...haha
