Hi,

I recently re-installed windows 7 on my computer, and after i installed all of the drivers, i realized my computer wouldn't shut down.

I mean, it says its shutting down, then the screen goes into standby mode, but the computer keeps running.
I don't understand why or how this could happen.

It's weird, i even tried rolling back on some bios changes i made, but nothing. I don't even know how to troubleshoot this. I tried googling it, but everyone that has a different problem on which the shutting down screen persists.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Alex.

I think i prematurely made this thread as i just fixed it by reverting an old bios setting that i thought wouldn't influence. It was set on AHCI, then i changed back to IDE and it worked. OR maybe it was just a coincidence and this just happens when there are updates involved. Will let you guys know if it happens again!

Another thing that's bothering me though, is how long it takes for the computer to go into shut down mode.
Before formatting, i remember clicking shutdown and it instantly went to that Shutting Down screen. Now it hangs for about 6-7 seconds, shows that force close screen with no programs in it, and then goes to the shutting down screen. I tried setting the wait timer to kill service to 2 seconds, but that didn't help.
Any ideas?

Oh so that's what was causing the shutdown issue?
There are two different settings in my bios on which i can choose AHCI or IDE or RAID.

One is in a marvell tree and the other one is a standalone one. I don't know why you would be able to choose two ways, but i'm guessing the one that affects the disk is the marvell one right?

By the way, i'll give it a try on that page file clear tutorial. Can't test the shutdown now as i have multiple downloads active.

TBH im suprised it even booted
You have two places as you have 2 sata controllers on your mobo, one intel controlled by chipset and a seperate one controlled by marvell so depends which sata plugs on mobo you connected your HDD too, heres a snip of your mobo specs so actually with jmicron controller you may even have three

try to make a new user and check it there too, you may accidentally changed your registry and this happened!

4 x SATA 3Gb/s port(s), gray

Marvell® PCIe 9182 controller : *1

All this information should be in your Motherboard Manual. As you can see Marvell controls the red sata ports and Intel controls the gray sata ports. I use nothing but Intel controlled ports because Marvell has been nothing but a head ache on my board.
