I leave mine on all the time, except for about once a week I just turn it off so things can reset, but turn it right back on.

One thing to remember if you leave your machine on all the time is ventilation, if there is plenty of room for the fans to push their air out, then it should be ok. I always leave my server on but I periodically open it up and blow out the cpu fan so that the rug dust does not clog it up.
My laptops are only on when I use them as laptops are notorious for insufficient ventilation.

- I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
The 2 PC's I use as DVR's are always on, my desktop computers are generally on all day and I shut them down when I go to bed unless it is doing something, like running virus malware scan, cleaning up free space etc. The netbook powered up only when it is being used.
However when there is a thunderstorm in the area all computers and valuable electronics are powered off and disconnected from the AC at the wall. If you have an overhead cable line to your house I would remove the cable from the modem, Cable box & TV as well. I have seen way too much stuff zapped by a passing thunderstorms.
