In Device Manager, .
  • Right click the High Definition Audio device and select Properties
  • Click the Details tab
  • Use the Properties the pull down menu and look carefully if Class Upper Filters or Class Lower Filters exist
  • If either one or both are there, select it, then copy / paste the information that appears in the windows for Value

Hi,
Many thanks for your prompt response to my query.
I followed your instruction/advice and found "Class upper filters" and in the value box the one word - "debutfilter".

If it helps any - I recently had NCH Debut Video screen capture software on my System - would this have any bearing on this problem?

Thanks for your help

I don't think that I would have the confidence to handle going into the registry, so that would be a no no for me without an extremely user friendly walkthrough.

I still hold the faith, and have every hope that some kind soul on here, currently dealing with "ComputerGeek" post, will help me resolve this issue.
Should this not be possible reasonably soon, I would maybe have to resort to one of the advertised software solutions, but don't know of any that would be reasonably inexpensive and guarantee to resolve this issue should I have to subscribe to one.

Thanks again for your response.

Sorry that I was not clear. I posted that link to show how evil the folks at NCH are. Don't follow any instructions on that page that I linked to and certainly don't pay for anything. I'll try and remember to include that caveat the next time that I post that link. The evil folks at NCH have caused many a person to join forums like this one seeking help after NCH software was installed.

So you already uninstalled NCH? It seems the uninstaller failed to remove a driver file reference from the registry.

Download the attached zip file. Extract the .reg file to your Desktop, right click and run as admin. It will delete that file reference from the registry for you.

Reboot. Are things better?

Yes thanks!

Sorry to be a pain with this - but there is just one outstanding issue now.
This problem reared its head at the same time when trying to roll back to rectify my Audio problems.

My System Restore won't work and I end up with: System restore could not access a file, an unspecified error occurred during system restore (0x80070005).

Would you by any chance be able to advise on this?

I am trying to get my system somewhere near ready for when I eventually load WIN10.

Thanks for your help - very much appreciated.

Glad I could help with your driver issue. I don't have experience with the second one. But I googled the problem and seems many others have shared your pain.

One thing to try (worked for some): Disconnect from the internet, disable your anti-virus real-time protection. Then try it again.

If that doesn't help you're best to create a new thread. Hope you get that problem fixed too!

Thanks for the advice and of course your help!

This is driving me mad and I need a break from things so I will mark this a solved, have a break and a good think before my next step, which may of course be starting a new thread.

Thanks again
