Solved Configuring Windows

My laptop has been "Configuring Windows updates 35% complete" for nearly 2 hours! Have never had this for more 20 minutes! What should I do? Very frustrating! Thank you.

Thank you - it did eventually finish - then another 30 minutes "cleaning up" whole morning lost! Has never happened before!

The best you can do is to wait until it finishes. Basically, the problem is that Windows Update is totally broken and may take HOURS to finish, as you have seen.

In the future it's probably better to apply updates overnight and leave WU all the time it needs to destroy update Windows, so the next day it probably has finished.
An even better option is to simply forget about Windows updates unless you know you need something in particular.

How to schedule updates

Click Start, type: Windows Update

Press Enter on your keyboard

Click Change Settings

Click in the Important Updates list box

Download updates but let me choose when to install them.

Choose Install Updates: Everyday and at the specified time
