Confirmed: Office 2010 will come in 32-bit, 64-bit

I just hope they fix the Groove issue with file sync on x64 systems. Currently Groove won't file sync on x64! Completely insane, and one of the key features of the application.

I rely on Groove to share a lot of collective information in a ultra-secure fashion with a set of people for one of my businesses.

Hi I like Open Office as well but I still find that the "EXCEL CLONE" a bit limiting.

1) No VBA / compatability with EXCEL VBA -- probably not important if you are not a huge user of EXCEL macros / VBA.

2) - The show stopper

-- EXCEL WEB queries. I use these a lot of retrieving data from the WEB and updating automatically such as updating the FTSE 100 stock exchange Index (One of my many vices is that I like a bit of "Spread Betting" -- and you can do this with things like FTSE 100, or Dow etc etc -- careful if you do this -- put decent stop losses on or it could cost you serious money --you can MAKE some as well).

Now if you can suggest a way of retrrieving data from the web and automatically updating with Open Office I'll love to try it.

The rest of OPEN OFFICE is very good indeed - especially for the price - ZERO.

For EXCEL.

In the example i'm showing here I've got a web query to retrieve the "Components" and current market data for the FTSE 100 index. (The components are the companies that make up the FTSE 100 -- known as the "Footsie" or the UK Financial Times stock exchange top 100 index).

The Green arrow specifies that table area you want to import and the import button tells you go ahead and import data.

You then get a prompt telling you what Cell to start importing to -- and just go for it.

Finally in diagram 3 the final result.

It's easy to automate this say for updating every 5 mins or whatever.

Very very useful.

BTW if you are using EXCEL 2003 or EXCEL XP rather than EXCEL 2007 instead of directly getting the WEB data from the menu you have to go to DATA ==> Get external data==>new web query or similar -- I haven't used the 2003 version for a while but web queries work exactly the same way as in EXCEL 2007.

not particularly but it's fun sometimes - especially the spread betting stuff-- be careful however and always put "Stop Losses" on.

BTW Open Office CALC (the EXCEL clone of open Office) can also do web query stuff -- I made a mistake about it not being able to do it -- it's in another post.

Think I still prefer EXCEL however - but if you don't have MS office then Open Office is fine (and FREE).

I hope they have the foresight at my workplace to move to 64-bit computing.
Nothing stopping them testing Windows 7 64-bit now, and then installing Office 2010 64-bit next year.

Finally a 64bit Office Im looking forward to seeing how it holds up.
Granted its going to take a long time for the average company to adopt it, but it will make my life easier at home and on side projects.
