I'm just wondering if the jump from 32-bit to 64-bit Office 2010 is worth the effort just like the jump from 32-bit OS's to 64-bit seems to be for the industry.

I read that Microsoft advised not to make the jump for Office 64-bit as it's too early and will give organisations some kind of compatability issues. They were saying to let 64-bit mature and consider it in the 2013 Office. What will you do?

Not sure why they'd make a 64 bit Office and then say don't jump on it.

If I were running a 64-bit operating system, I'm pretty sure that I would use the 64-bit version of Office as well. Your primary compatibility problems will be drivers and such for the OS. But if you have the OS running, the 64-bit software shouldn't be much of an issue at all.

I do heavy editing of manuals and books, and as a tester for the office beta program I can say without a doubt that 64 bit office is the only way to go. It is faster, smoother, and when working with large files there is in reality no hang time as with the 32 bit office.

They are the same price so if you are working with a 64 bit system and 64 bit Windows Seven or Vista it is truly the only way to go. :D

The only issue with x64 Office are the plug-ins for the programs itself (Outlook, One Note etc) which adds extra flexibility and productivity and some nice futures (LikedIn Outlook Connector)
There are not many x64 plug-ins at the moment.
I personaly do not use any of them so I use Office x64 with x64 OS for personal only, and not a sigle problem at all so far as Beta.
Looking forward for RTM and again X64 !!!

I am running the Full x64 of Office 2010 PP and it works great! The 64bit makes the applications launch extremely fast. The GUI is quick and responsive. This is compared to 32bit Office 2007 on the same machine. Windows 7 Ultimate x64, 2GB RAM

I highly recommend going Office 2010 (x64) on Windows 7 (x64).

there are BIG negatives. I have just uninstalled my 64-bit and installed the 32-bit version because of two key components.
1. I could not sync my windows mobile phone anymore with outlook, and apparently I will never ever be able to do this (google WMDC outlook 2010 64-bit)
2. Microsoft did not upgrade the Common Controls (mscomctl.ocx) to 64-bit so any office applications that use these will no longer work. We have some access applications that use these controls so this was essentially the straw that broke the camels back.

I think Microsoft have mad a huge failure in this release and have not properly assessed the implications and ramifications of these two oversights

i think it is important for people to realise these negatives up front more directly. I.e. when installing why not warn the user up front of these. I certainly would not have expected my microsoft phone to not sync with my microsoft office product, or my microsoft common control to not work in my microsoft application.

This is very good information. Until I have issues I'll continue to run Office 64bit, but will keep this information in mind.

Dont know if you've seen this before, but this comes from the MS Technet site...

Microsoft strongly recommends the use of 32-bit (x86) versions of Office 2010, Project 2010, Visio 2010, and SharePoint Designer 2010 applications as the default option for all platforms.

I am running the 32 bit version in Win7 x64 mainly because that is what was loaded (I never noticed I had a choice). I got to say this when I click on an app if it came up any faster I would have to pick it up off of the floor. Really speedy.
