Hello everyone,

First of all, forgive me if this thread has been posted in the wrong spot. I've stumbled upon the forums during a search to fix this odd network problem I've seen to run into.

I'm fairly new to Windows 7 (never went to Vista), so I may be overlooking something.

This is what I'm running into, I currently have working internet in both my web browser as well as the one video game I play.

However, I seem to be unable to connect to the following, but not limited to,;

Miro - Feeds don't work, nothing downloads. (Stuck @ Starting)
Windows Update - Will not download. Error: 80072EE2
A movie sheet generator app for my Media Center - Unable to retrieve information from IMDB and MovieDB.
Windows Online Help - Tried to connect after receiving update error.

These programs use to work fine, the only recent things I can think of that would of affected things would be Winpcap drivers.

I've uninstalled the drivers and continue to have this issue. All these things work fine on my other system, currently runnings Windows XP - it too has the same Winpcap drivers installed.

I've tried disabling Windows Firewall - however that did not fix the issue.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Stinkpickle.

What Anti-Virus are you using? Is it up to date? I have seen stuff like this when a machine becomes infected. I have seen viruses block Microsoft Updates.

You should run Malwarebytes and CCleaner on your system as well.

http://www.malwarebytes.org/
http://www.ccleaner.com/

Hopefully that will help you.

No antivirus installed anymore, ran one earlier had 0 infections. (Kaspersky)

I'll give those programs a try.

Thanks.

Edit: Ran both - problem still continues.

Funny thing is this problem causes me to fail to update the malware application, found it amusing.

I would check your system and bios time/dates to make sure they are correctly set and in sync. Windows updates won't work correctly if the time/date isn't set and in sync.

Best way to do that?

Also, would that cause every other application to fail to connect to a server. Nothing outside of an internet browser or my game seems to be able to connect to anything.

When your computer boots up you actually have to go into the SETUP of the BIOS

and check the clock there and then when you boot into windows.. check the clock there.

Has your host file been modified? %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts

Here is the default:

# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host
# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
# 127.0.0.1 localhost
# ::1 localhost

BIOS clock matches up.

Host file has been unchanged, still the same as default.

I may just end up reinstalling, Windows 7 is a pretty fast install.

You may be missing some system files, Try going to start/search type "cmd" then right click on the small dos icon above and run as admin. Type sfc/scannow into the prompt then hit enter and let it complete the file repair.

Beginning system scan. This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

This is driving me crazy, I don't understand what is causing this problem. I have perfect internet on the computer, but applications are unable to connect to servers. However my video game connects to log in servers and game servers.

I appreciate the help guys!

With IE open try going to upper right "Tools" then scroll down to Internet Options then choose the advanced tab. Try hitting the "reset" button then "apply" and see if it helps.

That was it!! I never even thought about IE being messed up, always use Firefox. Windows update, and all my other applications now properly connect.

Thank you very much!:D

WooHoooo good guess on my part. I've seen the default setting in IE fix a few problems so I figured it was worth a shot. ;)
