Hi, I do hope someone can help. I've used techncial forums as a lurker for many years and have always, always managed to recover from PC problems but this one has me stuck. My son picked up a trojan on his PC which started off a chain of popups making the PC unusable. On reboot the PC would just hang. I managed to log on okay in safe mode and do the usual tricks to remove the offending files, run an AVG scan and restore the system. To cut a long story short I am still unable to browse the internet or use email on his PC. I've tried wireless or hard wired connection. I've disabled and re-enabled LAN and wireless cards. I've checked my router for any issues. I've shutdown all the security and firewalls on his PC and tried again all to no avail.

The PC connects to and recognises our home network and can share files and printers. It seems to be accessing online data when I run google earth but refuses to access any web pages or send /recieve email.

Any advice, tips or suggestions would be really appreciated.

thanks in advance

Neil

Hiya pal, and welcome to the 7 forums :)

First thing I would try is to make sure you have no malware viruses still lurking about on the troubled PC, AVG might not be able to detect the nasty little buggers that might be lurking in the background. Try using this freeware tool malwarebytes and see if it helps a bit ;)

Use command prompt to ping google.com. Google still responds to ping. Also another poster having trouble with IE wound up resetting IE followed by reregistering some IE dll's: http://www.sevenforums.com/browsers...mails-fail-page-not-available.html#post983458 .

Hi Ron and thanks for the response. As you suspected I can ping google. I run firefox not IE but will work through the suggestions in the link you have posted in the hope that I will hit on the solution in the end.

Well some progress is being made. After doing a fresh install of IE8 I found this worked fine. Firefox I have managed to sort out by doing a reinstall.

AVG and windows live email accounts still not working at present plus I have a heap of other applications to check out but at least progress is being made. :-)
