connected via vpn in xp mode but cannot remote desktop

hi,
i purchased windows 7 professional to virtual pc to windows xp so i can vpn into my works network.

i've downloaded virtual pc and windows xp, start a session and able to log into my works network via vpn.

i lose internet connectivity once connected by vpn on my windows xp and when i try to start up a remote desktop session, my attempt times out having not connected. i am using a router but this is not the issue because i brought a laptop from work who only has windows xp on it and was able to log in the network.

i've disabled firewalls both in xp and windows 7 but no success. i've searched forever on these forums attempting different settings.

i log into my workstation at work and my profile has full access so it is really with windows 7 or the the virtual pc xp the problem

Hello,

Is there a reason to why you are not creating the VPN within Windows 7? Is there a reason that you specifically need Windows XP?

With regards to the problem, double check the remote desktop setting by right clicking computer and selecting properties. Then click the remote tab. Make sure that the following is ticked:
"All connections from computers running all versions of remote desktop (Less Secure)"

What are you trying to achive? Are you remoting to a PC thats at your office?

i am trying to log in the computer at work. it is running on windows xp so i told i have to be running the same environnment. so i virtual pc into xp, start vpn, connect to works network and then i lose connectivity. i still have it if i go on windows 7 but for windows xp, i don't have any connections. normailly, i'd be able to browse the internet and the different workstations on company's network. i did verify the properties and this is the setting i am on

No you dont have to log on in the same environment... I remotely connect to all sorts of different operating systems from my Windows 7 Machine.

Speak to your IT guys about this. If they use port forwarding on your office router then you will be able to remote desktop into your office without establishing a VPN.

the multi billion dollar company i work for only has a cisco support for windows xp. so when i downloaded from my iT guys, they tell me i must be in xp mode. i do not have a cisco app for windows 7 only xp which i downloaded from my IT

Ahh the plot thickens.

So in actuallity you are using the XP Mode because you are using Cisco VPN Software?

I would refer to your support company or internal IT Dept for this. They will know alot more about your setup.

unfortunately they won`t help because its not a laptop from work and it`s my personal pc. subcontracted IT. so i have to figure it out myself
