I have an HP laptop with Windows 7 on it and I just purchased a VGA cord in order to use my 50 inch Samsung Plasma TV as a monitor. (My main reason for doing this was to watch videos from HBO GO on it) I was able to get the hook up right and it does work; however, what is happening is that every once in a while, the picture on the TV screen disappears and it shifts back to my laptop screen. This lasts for about two or three seconds, then it shifts back to the TV screen. This does not appear to be happening at regular intervals; sometimes it happens ten times in a few minutes, sometimes it goes several minutes without happening. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is causing this and how to stop it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Possible causes:

Video driver bugs.

Loose or bad cable.

Hardware design problems with the TV's VGA decoder.

Try updating your video driver. If that doesn't help, borrow a replacement cable.

If your laptop and TV have compatible digital connections then you may have better results by using a digital connection rather than VGA.

Hiya pal, and welcome to the forums. In your system spec you state "not sure" have a look on the bottom for a sticker that looks like this

Hp also has an auto detect feature that might be of use. Driver support

If your lappy has an HDMI output this might be able to solve your problems ;)
