Connecting Laptop with TV does not work

Hello Everyone,


i recently won a laptop (Toshiba Satellite) and wanted to use it as a media station to watch movies on my tv.
My Tv doesnt have HDMI so i had to by a VGA to SVideo adapter and connected tv and laptop, but the screen on the tv stays dark. no reaction. if i connect my macbook everything works fine, so i assume theres something wrong in the settings.

The video settings recognise that there is a 2nd screen and i tried cloning, split screen, just the tv. all sorts of possible settings i could imagine, but no reaction.

Do i have to set some special settings to get win7 work with a tv?

Try Windows Key+P to toggle the Video Out

Or try FCT+F5 to toggle the display

Even assuming you have everything set up correctly, connecting a TV to a laptop using an sVideo to VGA adapter is hit or miss at best. It depends on the kind of TV you have and the GPU in your laptop. Some integrated chips will display a 2nd monitor with no difficulty, but can't connect to a TV no matter what you try. If you have an nVidea or ATI gpu, use the graphics control panel to try to set it up, not windows. The other problem could be your laptop trying to get the TV to display at a resolution it's not capable of. Windows 7 by default displays at 1024x768 to both monitors, cloned, as an initial setting. I'm assuming it's an HDTV, but if it's only capable of say.. 480i, try setting the resolution of the 2nd monitor @ 720x480 or 640x480.. Windows 7 by default won't display a desktop correctly at settings below 1024x768 but you can still extend the desktop and play DVDs full screen on your TV at a much lower resolution than on a monitor or laptop display, while still getting a good picture. Also, try using the vga to Svideo adapter to connect to a new flat panel TV that's capable of at least 720p, just to make sure there's nothing wrong with the adapter itself. They don't always work. If your TV has a VGA input, use that instead, even if it means spending a little $$ to get a 6ft or 8ft VGA cable. If it doesn't, I wouldn't put too much more effort into it.
