Connection drops with large transfers

I noticed that when I try to copy over a 4.02GB file from my desktop to my laptop it goes for about 10-15 minutes and then stalls before telling me that the file destination/source no longer exists and cancels the transfer. But if I leave it alone they'll see each other in a few minutes time. This does not effect internet connection or connection with any other network devices, just these two homegroup computers.

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on the desktop and Professional 64-bit on the Laptop. Also using a Linksys 160N v3 with DD-WRT firmware.

As a secondary question, do Windows 7 computers running different versions (32-bit vs 64-bit) not see each other in a homegroup? My girlfriend's laptop has never been able to connect to the homegroup and she has a 32-bit Windows 7, though I CAN connect to her through the regular network browsing.

Both problems can directly be traced to homegroup. You can test this by setting up a new network connection using workgroup. If it works (and it should) you can disable Ipv6 and kill homegroup

Let us know if you need help with this

How do I set up a new network connection using work group? Either I haven't done it before or I just don't think of it when I hear "workgroup". Also not sure what "Ipv6".

And it sounds like homegroup can be fairly unreliable if the best option is to just end up disabling it all-together (though it has worked for me great in the past).

The actual problem is that you are using Libraries to transfer those files around which it really isn't meant for. This behavior is by design because Libraries are only images of files contained in your User folders, there is absolutely nothing wrong with the Homegroup or Libraries. Homegroups works perfectly provided that you know how to use it "most don't".

Instead of using Libraries to move those files simply go into your User folders, My docs,My pics, etc. and then you will be able to move those largers files without any problems. It's probably best to get this info from someone who actually uses Homegroups. ;)

You can move files using Libraries but it's not the conventional method of copy and paste. You need to use the tool bar and menu for that. Instructions for this are in the link below.

I already tried that and I get the same issues. I just navigate normally through the network (\\Other-PC\Users\Matthew\Downloads) and try to copy but it disconnects after a short period of time. Literally the same exact issues, they will lose connection, not see each other at all for a few minutes then reconnect.
