Just installed 7068 on my friends laptop, but cant connect to the internet. Get an error 691 message (local area connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration)
Anyone know how to resolve this please. I use the same broadband connection now on my desktop without any problems. But when I connect the cable to his laptop I get this error!!

If you're pulling an ip address from the router's dhcp server, try to go to start, in search type cmd, hit enter. When that opens, type ipconfig /renew. See if it helps. Also, make sure the router is not set to only allow certain mac addresses or that there are no other types of filters set that would disallow access to the laptop. Do you have any 3rd party antivirus installed? I saw in another thread this could be the culprit.

That sounds like a dial-up modem error number.

Try this:

Go to control panel, then viewing large icons, click Network and Sharing center. On the left side is change adapter settings. Click that.

If there are more than one network devices listed here, you want the one that is not a dial-up modem. For me, this would be Realtek RTL8139/810x. It differs depending on the built-in LAN for the laptop.

Now I only have my one, with no modem installed. I believe that you could right click on the icons listed if you do have more than one, and choose set as default. Maybe it's different, I forget now.

Basically, I'm trying to make sure that the LAN port is the default connection as opposed to the dialup modem of the laptop.

Also, you can go to start menu, right click on computer then choose properties. In the computer name, domain and workgroup settings section, make sure the laptop is not set to use a domain. The last line of that section should say workgroup as opposed to domain.
