Consent.exe

There was another thread, from last year, that went like this:

- I have 10 consent.exe in my task manager ( I think one extra comes up everytime i try to run an exe file )
- When I try to end the process (consent.exe) in task manager, It shows up with the message " THE OPERATION COULD NOT BE COMPLETED. ACCESS IS DENIED"
- I cannot run any exe file, nothing happens. ( plus the folders i open to locate and run exe files do not close, they just hang up )
- I cannot turn off or restart my laptop. Nothing happens when I tell it to turn off ( or restart).

Please HELP

I have the same issue, minus the ability to logout, and exe's cause it. Each time I run the exe from the desktop, a new instance of consent.exe pops up in Task Manager. I'd like to run the program because it's a helpful little utility I use, but 7 wants an admin consent response, but doesn't pop up the window. I can't get to the window via cntrl-tab. It never pops up. It's not behind other windows (totally off subject, but isn't it funny that you can't see thru the windows?). The only way to get rid of consent.exe is to logout and log back in.

It's reached "pain-in-the-keester" level, and I'd like to solve it.

Is this only the one exe, or all that causes this? If just the one, does right click> Run as administrator not work?

This can also be malware related behavior. Scan with Malwarebytes, Superantispyware, etc.

Well, after some experimentation, ANY exe does it, but running in admin mode works to start the prog. I watch the consent.exe come and go in the task manager.

I don't mind changing the properties to Run As Admin all the time, but I'm just not sure it should be necessary. That's what consent.exe is supposed to handle, isn't it? And, second, if I am an Admin user, why ask me anything? Why can't Windows assume that I want to run as an Admin because I AM the admin?

It's UAC, it pops up and asks you if set that way (well, it's supposed to pop up, that's your issue). You can set it different of course.

I believe the issue is you don't see the popup asking you to OK, correct? That's why the consent.exe opens. And why you get multiple if you try several times. Normally it comes up, then disappears when you OK the popup.

that's the process I expect. I never see the popup window, and cannot approve any of them.

This is a new problem, and you used to get the popups? You don't have a second monitor enabled where the popups may be appearing? You don't have other windows open that the popup may be appearing behind?

No second display, and msg #1 mentions that the popups do NOT appear behind other windows. I just bumped UAC to the default levels. We'll see what happens. I get the feeling that, for some apps, I'll just see the prob more often.

Might run a SFC, see if it finds any issues.
