Consistent Automatic Alt-Tabbing after update

Every single time my windows 7 updates, my windows keep randomly tabbing or something, making it almost impossible to type anything for more than 2 seconds. So if I am typing something in Word, I will be typing for about 2 seconds when I notice that the Word Icon on the control panel becomes unhighlighted (at which point I can't type anything), and then becomes highlighted again in the next few seconds and I can type again for a bit. This cycle continues to repeat itself and I have resorted to just restoring my computer over and over again so that it has not recieved updates (Im like 20 behind or something). That's the only time the problem seems to resolve but eventully I will be needing updates no? How do I fix this?

I am running Windows 7 64-bit on an HP probook4430, i3 processor 4GB RAM, service pack 1.

The symptoms that you've mentioned can be described as "Windows losing focus"

This is may be a shot in the dark, but does the same issue occur in Safe Mode?

Try rebooting your computer to Safe Mode and report back to us, please.

If it the issue is resolved in Safe mode, proceed with the following steps:-


The msconfig method:-

Click on Start then Run, type msconfig and press Enter.

Click on the Startup tab, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.
Reboot and see if it runs better.

If yes then use msconfig to enable several items at a time till you find the culprit.


If no, start msconfig and click on the Services tab.

Check the Hide All Microsoft Services box, record what is currently starting then click the Disable All button.

Again, do a regular boot, see if it runs normal.

If yes then use msconfig to enable services till you find the culprit.

Once you've found the culprit, uninstall it or find out how to eliminate it from your system. Simply disabling it in msconfig is a temporary fix at best.

Enable everything else you disabled.
