yeah, I was seriously concerned when it happened, but really relieved when it didn't happen again, as that could've suggested an even bigger issue being the cause if it had happened again.
When I get home this evening I'll try to get it into some bootable working mode to look for the DMP file.

I am having a simmiliar issue except I only notice the blue screen crashes happening while I'm playing a video game. It happened a lot when I played Rift and now that I'm playing Star Wars the Old Republic, it happens as well. It is very frustrating to say the least.

ok, backed up all my data, got the computer itself fixed (monitors weren't responding) and ran the HP recovery/restore program off the recovery partition. Unfortunately, the minidump file seemed to still be empty until the bitter end.

However, after reinstalling Windows, I put the PC to hibernate and moved it back upstairs. There was a BSOD when attempting to resume from hibernation. All that had changed was I had unplugged one of my USB external HDDs. A DMP file did seem to be created, so if somebody could analyse it to see if there is any critical issue before I get into putting all my files back on the HDD or if it is just due to me removing the USB HDD.

This one was Related to afd.sys Ancillary Function Driver from Microsoft Corporation. This driver caused a memory exception.

I believe that afd was triggered by USBPORT.sys but with only one dmp to examine we will have to wait and see.

It will be easier to fix by simply upgrading to SP-1

Four BSODs (seems to be stuck at the same damage level as before. well, perhaps not quite as severe, but seems to ertainly be a "can't start windows normally without a crash" problem). Attached zip contains 4 DMPs. Three of them start with 9... as I removed the BIOS battery after the second BSOD of today as the BIOS was frozen again :/ (so the time is reset)

Most recent one was Related to AgileVpn.sys RAS Agile Vpn Miniport Call Manager from Microsoft Corporation..

I've been running memtest for the last 5 1/2 hours, and it's done 4 passes and come up with 0 errors. I also ran the PC Doctor tool when Windows was in one of its "deciding to work" phases and the GPU got a pass with both tests, and all components got passes with the other tests.

It is more than just the date (though that plays a part). I cant determine the sequence of them so dont know if the first caused the second of the second caused the first. The only important bit in any of them is this.

I'm very confused as to what is wrong, as seemingly the hardware is all a-okay Would reinstalling Windows again be worth a try?
The PC doesn't seem to be crashing quite as frequently as it was before the first re-install, but it's still crashing a heck of a lot more than it should be

Ok, just reinstalled Windows again, this time from the recovery discs rather than the recovery partition.
just wondering, does the SP1 update include does all generic Windows updates that came before it?

You overclocking, undervolting, or have any "odd" hardware?

no. After the tragic demise of Morpheus (my previous PC that I built), I declared myself out of the customization market for a few years. So when I bought this computer, I promised to myself not to change anything
No overclocking etc., all internal hardware is as it was when I bought the PC as an HP Gold Renew with nothing extra added.
In a typical daily usage scenario, connected to the PC is:
-USB wireless dongle for the HP keyboard and mouse
-two USB to mini USB cables connected to my two 500GB external drives (always connected)
-three standard audio cables for the 5.1 surround sound speakers (no separate audio card, the mobo has 6 analog audio connectors)
-VGA cable for my monitor, connected to the vga port on the graphics card.
-what looks like typical audio jacks, the two cables for the infra red stuff for the HP remote
-a twisty screwy thing for the WiFi aerial
-USB cable to the 4 port USB hub that has its own mains power source
On the front USB panel there is usually a USB cable to my PS3 controller for use as a gamepad, and sometimes a flash drive if the USB hub is full.

This one very specific and related to your AVer7231_x64.sys (Avermedia capture). So specific I would remove to test.

oh, that's intriguing. As I don't really use the TV tuner card at the moment (haven't got a good enough aerial and the house aerial is too inconveniently placed to traipse a cable across the house), so I guess I can remove it. Just downloading the updates relevant to hardware (AMD, Avermedia, Realtek), but shall still remove the tuner card. Note though, not installing the Nvidia driver from Windows update, so as to see if there are further BSODs without that potential cause being present
As of right now, no further BSODs (touchwood), and the PC has been running and in use since. Admittedly, I haven't done much other than watch a film in WMP and VLC and have had chrome constantly running, so nothing intensive such as the "LA Noire test", though I did run the Sims 3 on the highest settings for about 15 minutes, around 45 minutes before the BSOD.

ok, for the past 5 days the computer has been at a friend's house as I was out of town. During the albeit short time they used it, they came across no errors. When I got it back today, the wireless keyboard and mouse weren't working, which had appeared on the second windows install after a while and along with the return of frequent BSODs pushed me to re-installing a second time, reulsting in the current third install of Windows. Once again, my 500+GB of data is still distributed across several smaller HDDs as the keyboard issue was making me sceptical. My scepticism was unfortunately greeted with reason, as when I went back upstairs and clicked my password in with a wired mouse on the onscreen keyboard, it logged in rather than unlocked, soon after 'greeting' be with a "Windows has recovered from an unexpected error" (blue screen). Clearly it hadn't "recovered", as no sooner had I moved my mouse to express my frustration to one of my friends over google talk, there was ANOTHER BSOD. Attached is a zip with both DMP files in it.
I'm sure you can understand just how... *ahem* 'darn' annoying all this is. I've reinstalled Windows twice now, seemingly to no avail. I really don't want to go back to the compatibility-lacking wasteland that is Linux, as all my computing needs desperately need Windows. I know it's not your fault, and thank you for your continued support through all this. Also, I wholly understand if you don't respond for a while "what with it being christmas an' all" , merry christmas

Ok, on Christmas day I had two BSODs, the first at around 3PM while I was downstairs watching some Christmas TV avec mon famillé, the second one happened at around 2:22AM (yeah, technically the 26th Dec, not 25th) while I had a BSG DVD playing whilst tidying the room up (I have a habit of only managing to tidy my room when it's really late at night ). Today, I have had two or three BSODs, I think it was three... as after one happened, the second I logged in after it rebooted there was another BSOD, and I think I remember there being a solitary one before that. I will upload the DMP files asap, but the computer has been rather offline, just used over the past few days as a place to play DVDs in the background, due to the keyboard issue making typical usage more frustration than it's worth.
