Constant BSOD - power_driver_state_failure errors

Good Evening-

My beast is an Alienware M17xR3 and have had it for a few years now. For the past number of months, I have been getting BSOD's three to four times a day :shock: . I do a lot of gaming but this also will occur when just sitting idle and using other programs. The one I most often get is DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE ( I cannot remember the names of the other ones). I have attached my .zip file - the lighting no longer turns on and I've tried about everything I can think of - please assist -

If you have to let either of the displays (onboard intel or dedicated nvidia), which one you are ready to sacrifice?

Asking, because if you can do it (hard, but not always impossible) then you can get rid of the BSODs. It is the display switching mechanism (Nvidia optimus) that is behind the BSODs. No other permanent solution is known to me.

Decide and let us know.

Hi Arc-

I have a VGA output port as well as an HDMI Inbound and a separate HDMI output port. Essentially, I feel you are saying that I will no longer be able to use more than one display (no longer able to extend my desktop, ect), correct? When you say permanent, is that permanent as long as I have this OS and HDD or permanently no matter what upgrades I make to my lappy's hardware?

No ... I did not say so many things. I only said that as long as the graphics switch mechanism will be there, the BSOD will continue to happen. And to stop switching, you need to let the possibility of switching go.

The issue is very common for laptops with switchable graphics. No other solution is known to me than disabling optimus anyhow.

You have to use the laptop as a desktop. Either intel graphics or nvidia graphics. No switching between them. Rest is on you ... you can add whatever hardware possible within its scope.
