Constant Pings - Network Traffic

Hi All,
I am now running Windows 7 on 3 PC's at home, 2 64 bit and 1 32bit, 2 wired, 1 wireless.
Now looking at my modem, every 3-5 seconds all 3 lights flash and look like they all ping each other, they are all on default homegroup.
Is this what they should be doing, it never happened when 1 was xp, 1 was vista and 1 win7

Perfectly normal. It the computers way of saying who else is out there.

It never did it with XP or vista, is this due to the new homegroup.

Just want to be sure its not bad trafiic

ZigZag is correct. It's most likely perfectly normal.

If you are running a "homegroup" (as opposed to a "workgroup") there are network discovery services running that build lists of shared files and index multimedia files for Windows Media Player. This is going to cause some network traffic that is not directly by your activities.
