Solved Constantly trying to install updates at every shutdown

Just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate after procrastinating for years on my old Pentium 4 computer with XP. Of course there were alot of updates and I allowed all the critical ones to install, at least I thought they did. I then checked update to download but ask to install any new ones.

Almost every day when I shut the computer off, it warns me not to unplug it, it is installing updates. One day it is 1, next day 5, next day 10...

Is this normal, it seems it should be done by now.

Well if I am nothing, I am persistent. On further perusing, I noticed several updates have failed for whatever reason? Should I try and install them again or not? It would seem I am not getting the ones I want and am getting the ones I do not. I unchecked a couple updates I did not want, and the next day I find them installed anyways. I don't ever remember Windows XP failing to install updates or having this constant updating every time I shut down the computer. That is unfortunate that I can not control what is installed and what is not.

There are about 100 updates required after a clean install of Windows 7.

If you don't 'Hide' the updates you don't want, Automatic updating will catch and install them - but you should ensure that you at least install ALL important ones.

Best approach is to manually install all important updates in batches of about 10 - start with the oldest.
Leave all .NET updates until last, then install them 1 or 2 at a time in date order.

That could happen if you don't check for updates yourself often. Because you are shutting down your computer while installing updates, it would install all the important and optional updates found in Windows Update. So while you're using your computer, the first thing you should do is to check for updates, select which optional updates you want (if you don't know any of them just check all of them [like what I do most of the times XD]) and make sure ALL important updates are done. You might want to also check your Java and see if that's updated to the fullest version or not.

These are just things that I do, but I suggest you let NoelDP handle your issue. He's the pro, i'm practically learning off of him. XD
