Contacts missing after update of Windows Mail 2011

All my contacts were missing after the last update of Windows Mail. My cousin had the same issue. I could find my contacts list on my C: drive but they weren't linked together anymore. By logging into Windows live (@live.com email) the problem was corrected.
But what about those people who don't use or don't remember their login for their @live.com account? How do you link the 'Contact' file from your hard drive to your Windows Live??

If I understand your question, I think you are asking how to add you contacts back into windows live if you forget your password or username. Is this correct? If it is, you can easily reset log in information on the sign in page.
