Thanks for mentioning the gui. I didn't even know it existed and have always used the command line interface.

Well, I'm glad I mentioned it then Been using it for years, just replaced the contig exe in my folder, and now had the newest version. It has limited options of course:

Does contig with GUI defrag SysFiles like Perfect Disk 10 can do offline? Does it run as System?

How would you compare it to Auslogics or Defraggler?

Trying 3x defrag now.

In my opinion it is superior. You can defrag an entire drive or just a file.

This defreagger was written by Mark Russanovich of WinInternals and SysInternals fame. Best is to go to the website and read the writeup and also take a look at the various command line options.

Just run it until it tells you that no files were possible to defrag. Generally on the 3rd run you come up clean. The 1st run will take some time, the 2nd will be quicker and the 3rd will sail along.

I always use the -q option. Runs faster because the individual file defrags aren't shown.

Use the -s option to recurse.

My command line looks like:
contig c:\ -s -q
for defragging the C

I'm using the GUI for 3x defrag. Is that sufficient? Seems so.

The command line version gives you feedback as to the results.

I do not know if the results also get logged into one of the events logs.
